It gives me great pleasure to introduce Helios Cardio and with it our ambitions towards treating some of the most challenging unmet needs in cardiovascular health.

As CEO of TEI Biosciences and TEI Medical, I oversaw the development and commercialization of a novel implantable biomaterial manufactured from fetal bovine dermis (EBM). EBM combines the unique regenerative properties of Type III collagen with incredible strength and the promotion of integration into surrounding tissues with no inflammation or calcification. This winning combination has resulted in the successful use of EBM in over 1 million patients.

It was always my ambition to apply this unique material to cardiovascular applications. After TEI was acquired by Integra Lifesciences Corporation in 2015, I founded Helios Cardio with the aim of applying everything that we had learned about EBM over the past 20 years to solve some of the most difficult problems associated with cardiovascular health. Once the CardiaMend pericardial and epicardial reconstruction matrix is cleared by the FDA, we are looking forward to providing cardiac surgeons with the strongest and most regenerative biologic implant available to date. Our intention, however, is not to stop there, but to further extend the functionality of CardiaMend towards true cardiac tissue regeneration, and to achieve our ultimate goal of mending broken hearts.
